Many company owners make a mistake of considering performance as a single end concept of just the output or profit; but in a true sense, performance is a broader concept which needs some management. Managing performances can be defined as a systematic process in which all the members of the association are taken into account from accomplishing the goals or mandate. It is more than performance appraisal and helps in creating a healthy working environment which leads to accomplishment of goals with ease and elegance. There are certain critical factors that together help in performance management. According to successful business organizations, these factors must be implemented well for achieving the core of performance management. Organizational culture It is very important to understand that organization culture plays a vital role in improving the performance of employees. A good performance culture is only possible when there is a co-ordination between managers and staff. The managers must make fair assessment of performances of the staff and take necessary action to make it lucid with praises and appreciations. At the same time, the staff must also be ready to accept prerogatives of managers and implement the said changes. The staff and managers must take performance appraisals seriously, and step forward with acknowledgment. Individual performance expectations and organizational goals Another key element of success lies in recognizing the individual performance goals. Each level of organization has respective duty and they must perform accordingly. The duties and performance expectations of the employees must be made clear to them. Along with this, the overall organization goals must be made clear to them by the governing bodies. The performance of each level of organization must be coordinated. The vertical chain which links the performances of different levels must be established. Performance management as a managerial tool Managing performance is a managerial tool and the mangers must contribute a lot for better performance. A lot depends on their plans and way of working. The plans of performance must not be awkward or all of a sudden announcement, it must be prepared with a good flow of conversations with the staff and finding their potential areas. Measuring achievements After the implementation of performance management, the next thing that you would need to do is measure the achievements. The evaluation of achievements is a must to access the true nature of performance. The managers must be careful of not making five mistakes while managing performances. First, they must not wait for appraisal feedbacks. Secondly, they must not over emphasize the current performance. Thirdly, they must not be too positive or too negative. Fourth, they must not be critical without any constructive approach. Lastly, they must not simply be bragging and trumpeting for managing performances. What would make a world of a difference is in listening to what others have to say with care. |
